Bands You Should Give a Minute of Your Lives to Check Out 2
68Here are a few more bands I think people should be aware of, for varying reasons. Once more, just because one might not appeal don’t discount the others, they are all very different!
One Minute Silence (http://www.myspace.com/oneminutesilencefans)
Now disbanded, but while on the circuit they were voted best live act in Kerrang! magazine, based around not only great music but furious energy. Often politically charged lyrically, Brian Barry (or Yap) both raps and sings over a heavy, driven bassline.
Tracks to check out: Holy Man, I Wear My Skin
Yap has since gone on to form...
Pink Punk (www.ppunk.com) (http://www.myspace.com/pinkpunx)
Fronted by Yap, but with a fairly different approach to OMS, Pink Punk have a wide variety of backing for Yap’s vocal talents, it is now much more rap, or some might even call it Political poetry. It’s not the traditional musical formula, but it’s a very interesting and refreshing new style that deserves to be listened to.
Tracks to check out: Yapolitical, Down a Hole with Alice, Rockstars
Sub Focus (http://www.myspace.com/subfocus)
Sub Focus is Drum & Bass producer from the UK. Starting out in 2004, he has quickly been realised as one of the biggest talents in the electronic music industry. For those who say Drum & Bass is all the same, check him out, because he mixes things up really well, while keeping the heavy beat and classic D&B rhythm.
Tracks to check out: X-ray,Move Higher,Timewarp,Airplane
Agoraphobic Nosebleed (http://www.agoraphobicnosebleed.com) (www.myspace.com/agoraphobicnb)
If melody is what you want, then skip this band. If slow music is what you want, then skip this band. If lyrics you can make out that don’t deafen you is what you want, then skip this band. This is extreme Grindcore Metal, and it’s one of those bands that I really shouldn’t like but somehow do. If you’re up for an earpounding, or just want to shock someone, then take a look!
Tracks to check out: Trauma Queen, Hung From the Rising Sun
Biffy Clyro (www.biffyclyro.com)(www.myspace.com/biffyclyro)
I’ve seen these guys live, and trust me they are just as brilliant live as on their albums. They had released a few records previous to their mainstream appearances, which I was a fan of. The two albums since then have been different in style, but I still enjoy them, and they will appeal to a wider audience. The Scottish accent holds it all together nicely, and the Kilmarnock trio know how to deliver breathtaking live performances, and how to produce tracks to sell an album of high quality. Hats off to the Biffy Boys!
Tracks to check out: Mountains, That Golden Rule, Saturday Superhouse, Glitter and Trauma
Dido (www.didomusic.com)(www.myspace.com/dido)
Chances are you’ve probably heard of Dido. If you have, take another listen, if you haven’t, and you’re in the mood for some beautiful imagery and a wonderful voice then you should definitely find some of her stuff.
Tracks to check out: My Life, Take My Hand, Hunter, All You Want
Thanks once again. If anyone has any bands they would like to see featured in future blogs, please let me know in the comments section below.
